Born in Saugerties, New York, on January 30, 1934, Roger H.C. Donlon first enlisted in the US Air Force in 1953. He then went on to join the US Army, where he distinguished himself as a soldier of extraordinary bravery (Veteran Tributes, n.d.).

A Historic Act of Valor

Captain Donlon's heroism is best remembered through his actions on July 6, 1964, in Nam Dong, South Vietnam. As the commander of a Special Forces detachment, Donlon and his team were subjected to a fierce attack by a significantly larger Viet Cong force. Despite being wounded multiple times, the courageous Captain Donlon led his men in a determined defense of their position. His leadership and bravery were pivotal in repelling the enemy attack, saving countless lives.

On December 5, 1964, Captain Roger H.C. Donlon received the Medal of Honor in recognition of his extraordinary bravery and selflessness (USA Patriotism! . . .
